The basic concept of web programming is to get the maximum number of website visitors, transfer them into the maximum number of qualified leads, and convert those leads into sales. This conversion rate is critical when trying to maximize your ROI or "return on investment".
The way you create your "landing pages" has a direct correlation to the way they will show up in search engine results. A landing page is the page that a user will see or “lands on” when they click on an advertisement, a search-engine link, or other intentional traffic method. Some examples of this might include searching for your own company on Google and finding that the link either goes to the home page or other inside sales page. The point here is that we can be intentional about where our website visitor goes to and have that content on the landing page speak to the specific thing that they were searching for in the first place. Another example of this would be sending an email to a contact list and having the link go directly to your presentation, this would be an email marketing sales landing page.
Building an effective web strategy starts with choosing the right platform, doing the necessary programming, and maximizing for results.
See funnel graphic.
The website "conversion funnel" is the amount of people who could have purchased from you divided by the number of people who actually made it to your website. This then is further broken down into the number of people who made it to a qualified contact or sales page, and then further breaking that down into the number of people who actually contacted or made a purchase from you.
Web based programming can take your website and turn it into an online business.
There is a big difference between a business card "brochure" style website and an online business. Most websites are nothing more than an online brochure explaining to visitors what you have to offer. An online business however, educates the consumer, eliminates negative attitudes preventing a sale, and sends a qualified lead to a person inside the organization for follow up and to close the sale.
Some online businesses have the entire maturation process from traffic, to lead, to sale all take place online.
Successful web based programming applications collect information from website visitors and qualified leads. Even if these leads do not immediately turn into sales, the collected data is used for marketing purposes over time. Sending information to prospects over a lengthy period of time, feeding them tidbits of information is sometimes known as “drip” marketing. These qualified leads are then segmented based on where the lead came from and what specifically they were interested in. These leads can then be used to send text or rich media style emails to prospective buyers or decision makers. These emails can then be tracked thus providing additional metric data for decision making by your marketing team.
